Jose Rojas
Dancer/Instructor/Performer/Choreographer
Jose Rojas was born in Bogotá, Colombia. Surrounded by a family of musicians,
Jose developed a deep love and appreciation for Latin music. With his Uncles
influence Jose began exploring the sounds of Salsa, Boleros, and Merengue. In
1986 Joses mother moved the family to the U.S. in search of opportunity.
While in school Joses interest and passion for music blossomed.
At age 9 Jose began studying the trumpet. His music instructors praised that
he was a natural talent and perfomer. Jose loved being on stage. During a
performance, Jose was spotted by talent scout who offered him an opportunity
to join Los Tropicales, an orchestra of Colombian Cumbia-style salsa. At the
age of 14 Jose was performing in clubs and venues around the metro area.
Although many predicted Jose would continue on to become a musician he realized
his true passion by watching the crowds he was making music for. Jose wanted
to dance! At age 15 Jose took his first dance lesson with Eddie Torres.
Jose has not been able to stop studying, and teaching dance ever since. Jose has
been instructing Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cumbia, Rumba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Bachata,
and Ballroom dance for over 9 years. He enjoys working with all age groups,
choreographing for special events, birthdays and weddings. He has made
appearances on tv shows such as Imágenes with Willie Gonzalez and
Despierta America for Univision as well as the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Aside from teaching and performing Jose is currently organizing a professional
dance group and training for future competitions.
